Known issues:
- Faulty or Leaking Electrolytic Capacitors
Some motherboards may contain faulty or leaking electrolytic capacitors, which can negatively impact system performance or stability. These capacitors may exhibit issues such as bulging, leaking, or even exploding, potentially damaging other components on the motherboard. Users should inspect their capacitors regularly and replace any that are faulty or leaking to avoid damage or system instability.
- Memory Addressing Limitations
May have limitations in addressing the maximum amount of memory that the chipset can support, which can restrict the maximum amount of usable memory. This may be due to faulty BIOS, design cutbacks, or PCB design errors. Users should be aware of the potential limitations in their motherboard's memory addressing capabilities and consult the motherboard's manual for more information on maximum supported memory.
Notes:
Also known as ASUS P5VDC-TVM/V2-PE3/DP_MB and is the motherboard of the ASUS V2-PE3 barebone.
Memory Addressing Limitations
Despite having 4 memory slots this chipset is limited to 2GB addressable RAM in total.
- 2x 1GB Dual Sided modules are supported in the primary DDR2 or DDR slots, DDR2 provides the best performance.
- Dual Rank 2GB DDR2 modules are not supported.
- Mixing memory modules across both slots is not supported.
- When 2GB dual sided DDR2 modules are used the RAM will report as 1GB due to chipset bank select limitations.
- No ram combinations can increase the RAM beyond 2GB due to chipset limitations.
1x PCI-e port
- The onboard PCI-e 1x port is connected in a slower than native PCI-e 1.0 compatibility mode via the chipset southbridge VT8251.
- The SB nominally provides 2x PCI-e ports or 7 PCI ports
- The PCI-e ports are internally multiplexed to the BGA footprint outputs of which only 1 is exposed on this board.
- Performance is not up to par with a native PCI-e 1.0 1x port
- The bus cannot be expanded to the full 2x lanes or 16x as the footprint suggests, the remaining pins merely provide additional ground.
- The slot is not bootable with PCIe video cards.
